Jaci Smith and Maria Kedge (formerly Maria Mettler), representing the Air Force Academy, finished seventh and 11th overall in the women's open 10-kilometer race at the USATF Cross Country Championships, presented by Toyota, at Mission Bay Park in San Diego. Smith clocked 35:48 and Kedge ran 36:21 to help Air Force place second overall behind Hansons-Brooks Distance Project by a 16-28 margin. Smith and Kedge were the top two competitors in the women's military division, helping Air Force hold off the U.S. Naval Academy by a 16-20 margin.
